Missão Evangélica da Amazônia
We are members of Crossworld, an evangelical mission now based out of Kansas City, MO (previously in Bala Cynwd, PA). For the past 20 years, Donna and Eric have been on loan to MEVA, the Missão Evangélica da Amazônia (Evangelical Mission of the Amazon). MEVA was incorporated in 1959 as a Brazilian mission dedicated to the challenge of taking the gospel to the native peoples of northernmost Brazil. It is an outgrowth of the work of the three Hawkins brothers among the Wai Wai, Macushi, and Yanomami Indians in the 1940’s. The amazing story of the Wai Wai is well documented in the books “Christ’s Witchdoctor” and ” Christ’s Jungle” . MEVA has had a long and fruitful history in the areas of evangelism, translation, literacy programs, and health care. Today there are many churches among the different tribes we minister to, and our prayer is that they will grow in the Spirit-led desire to reach more of their own people.
MEVA has its own web site < http://blogdameva.wordpress.com > . It is in Portuguese, but has a lot of pictures which give you a feel for our mission’s work.
